Travel Kits: A Simple Way to Bless Others (review)

For children, long car trips can seem endless. Never mind the fact that Grandma and Grandpa are waiting; ten hours is a lot of sitting time. No matter how many books, toys, games, and DVDs the kids bring in the car, it doesn’t take long for boredom to set in. Travel Kits, a TOS exclusiveto the rescue!

What? More stuff to cram into the already overflowing trunk? No! You won’t have to make it fit in the fifty-pound airline limit in the suitcase, either. So, what’s in a Travel Kit? “A travel kit is a collection of items that will entertain and/or delight the passengers (especially the younger passengers), thus making the trip more pleasant for everyone. The items should be chosen, purchased (or baked, rented, checked out of the library, or crafted), and then wrapped individually. The components of your travel kit should be assembled in an appealing, creative, hardy container that will easily fit in your vehicle, within easy reach of the passengers (or Mom’s reach, if you have very young children).”

Donna Rees, the author, has included ideas for special travel coupons, group gifts, fun games, clever containers, and more. I wouldn’t have thought to use a fun beach tote with beach-themed gifts for fun in the car and at the shore. Other creative containers include a small laundry basket, a new backpack, and a clean cardboard ice cream tub. Thoughtful gifts include special snacks, car-friendly (or plane, train, boat) crafts, travel games, origami paper (Travel Kits has directions for several cute projects), clever drink containers, and more.

The ideas included are quite creative, especially for someone whose choices for children’s car activities have been limited to books, stuffed animals, and DVDs. Especially helpful are the detailed lists and many color photographs. Travel Kits make great gifts for anyone of any age you know who travels. Travel Kits even make a great gift for yourself! The only thing that could make this useful e-book any better is if I had thought of it myself. It’s only $12.45 (for 93 pages) from the TOS store. Go buy your copy today before you head out on your summer vacation! While you're at the TOS website, check out their amazing line of helpful and affordable e-books, including the Travel the World e-book planner module, recently reviewed by the TOS Crew.
